Rick Zane Dumont was reunited with his wife on April 28, 2024, after complications from a fall.

Rick was born in Lynwood, California on June 29, 1950, to Sheldon Zane and Joyce Miller Dumont. Within weeks of his birth the family moved back to Utah where Rick was raised.

As a child and young man Rick enjoyed the outdoors from hunting, fishing, and camping to riding horses. Later in life, he enjoyed spending time in his yard and garden. Rick graduated from Bingham High School in 1968.

Rick was a life-long learner.  He graduated from Utah State University and later the University of Utah earning a master’s degree in education. He had a love for learning the gospel and spent hours studying from the scriptures daily.

Rick bumped into the church throughout his childhood but became a stalwart and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after deciding to serve a mission. He served in the England North mission from 1970 to 1972. Rick had the opportunity to serve in

many church callings, but his favorites included being Bishop of the Riverton 14th Ward and as a Minister. Rick looked for opportunities to serve others and always took those opportunities in a Christ-like way.

Rick met Shauna Lee Butterfield at a Young Single Adult dance and they quickly fell in love hiking Mount Timpanogos and kangaroo rat hunting. They married on February 13, 1976, in the Salt Lake Temple.  They had four children, Josh, Becky, Justin, and Christy and were later

blessed with nine grandchildren.  Together they built a home where family was always welcome, and the family would gather every Sunday to eat and spend time together.

Rick led by example and took every opportunity he could to share and teach the gospel with his loved ones and friends. He was thankful and content with what he Grandpas are the best had and generously shared with others. His ultimate joy was being with his family, most importantly, his beloved grandchildren. Rick is survived by his four children, Josh (Keri) Dumont, Becky (Jon) Hill, Justin (Bree)

Dumont, and Christy (Mark) Olson; his 9 grandchildren (Jensyn, Hayden, Payton, Halley, Blakelee, Benson, Denton, Lawrence, and Nellie; his sister Jody (Paul) VanSleeuwen, and brother Kelly (Connie) Dumont.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Shauna, parents, Zane and Joyce, brother Larry, and mother and father-in-law, Lamar and Maxine Butterfield.

Rick hired me as a teacher. He was a wonderful principal and provided teachers opportunities to learn and grow. I will always appreciate his wisdom and willingness to work with the teachers in the building.

I would like his family to know that his influence carries on in countless ways. Thanks for sharing him with us.
