Loving Husband, Father, and Friend

Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Ed Barton, age 84, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving wife Ann and family. Edson King Barton was born in Monticello, Utah on September 11, 1939. Son of Lloyd Lional Barton and Willamelia Frost Barton. He was the 9th child of 11. Ed was raised on the family farm and flour mill in Monticello, where he learned how to work hard. He played sports, enjoyed fixing cars and trucks, and was the student body class president.

At age 19, he joined the US Army and served honorably for 2 years. He served protecting our country during the Cold War, stationed at the missile site in the mountains above Los Angeles, California. Up until his service in the Army his friends and family called him King Barton.

He met Ann when they were elementary age and then again at a wedding reception in Salt Lake City. Ed was smitten with her. Near the completion of his service in the Army, he married his sweetheart Ellen Ann Allen, from Provo, Utah on September 2, 1960 in the Salt Lake City Temple for time and all eternity. Ed was 21 and Ann was 19. They remained together and in love to this very day.

Together, Ed & Ann have five children: Audrey (Kelly) Nielsen, Annette (Spencer) Mortensen, Rebecca Barton (deceased), Edson King II (Nikki) Barton, and Lewis Lloyd (Amber) Barton. Together, with their spouses, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, their posterity totals 52 and counting.

Ed is a wonderful husband, father, and friend to many. He is known for his spontaneity, compassion, enthusiasm, and big dreams - he made everyone feel at home and he freely gave what he had to others. Most of all, he loved his wife, Ann and family with all his heart. He always served faithfully as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, honored his Priesthood, and Covenants. He also loved business, the United States of America, and big trucks.

Ed is a survivor. He beat colon cancer, prostate cancer, and a broken back, but one of his greatest health challenges was celiac disease which robbed his body of needed nutrients. His later years were painful, but he endured them well and remained positive. He was and is a light to everyone who knew him and he continued to make people feel good and laugh even in his final days.

Edson King Barton will be missed. We love him and are grateful he can be reunited with his parents, siblings, and especially his daughter, Becky who died of Leukemia at age 13 and his grandson, McKay Mortensen who died at age 18.

Dearest Barton family

I am so sorry for this larger than life loss.

What an example of life and how our comfort of eternal life blesses us!

Family is forever and while we will miss your patriarch what a blessing to know you will see him again.

I am thinking of all of you and saying prayers of comfort for all.
