David "Dave" Vernon Montgomery

David Vernon Montgomery (Dave) was born on March 24, 1962 in Guam, son of Harold Vernon Jr and Dorothy J. Brown Montgomery. With a father in the military, David grew up in several places but predominately in Maryland and Colorado. He enjoyed sports and wrestled in high school. He graduated from Wasson High School in Colorado Springs.

In 1985, David joined the Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in many callings, his favorite was ward missionary in a Cambodian branch in Long Beach, California. He enjoyed sharing his testimony with others and was happy for the opportunity to again share while in the hospital just weeks before his death.

He married his eternal companion, Michele Walker in 1994 in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised two beautiful daughters and fostered a dozen more while living in North Salt Lake and for the last 21 years in Bountiful. His wife and daughters were the light of his life. For him family was everything and he was the glue.

David was a real jack of all trades and could accomplish whatever he set his mind to. He attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Phoenix, Arizona. He worked construction, as a baker, a machinist, in customer service, and as system operations manager. In 2009 he went back to school and graduated in medical specialties.

Having spent time as a child in Colorado it seems only natural that David was a big Denver Broncos fan. He enjoyed the outdoors; camping, hiking, or just star gazing with his girls. He loved music and had an eclectic taste spanning several decades and genres. David could often be found puttering around in his gardens or planning them. He usually was the first to buy flowers every spring to enjoy the beautiful colors. He was a handyman who liked to always be working on something and always seemed to need a new tool to accomplish it. He once stated that a person could never have enough tools. Home Depot and Harbor Freight became some of the family’s favorite stores. He liked to go shooting and it became a past time he enjoyed with his daughters. He was very attached to his “lap” dogs (large dogs) and felt he really missed out on not having a German Shepard.

He was a big tease with a fun sense of humor. He would call you on the choices you made without judgement and then hug you and let you know he loved you. A red-neck through and through, his favorite outfit was his overalls and leather hats.

After more than twelve years battling several chronic illnesses David died at home Wednesday, May 1, 2024 surrounded by those he loved most. David is survived by his wife; his daughters, Margaret R. (Jason) Hall, and Mary K. Montgomery; his brother, Leslie W, (Eileen) Montgomery of California; his sister Elisa L. Archuletta of Colorado; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Paula L. Montgomery, his grandparents, and his father-in laws.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Bountiful Tabernacle, 55 S. Main St., Bountiful. A visitation will be held at the Bountiful Tabernacle prior to services, at 12:15.
