William Vern Richins passed away on July 20,2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away at the Age of 81. Billy resided in the Salt Lake Valley his whole life. He was born to Elmer & Blanche Richins in the Rose Park Area of SLC on April 1st 1939. He was always surrounded by family, he was the 3rd child of 6. Shirley, Wayne, then Billy, followed by Sue, Dee, & Cindy.

After High School he went to work at the Union Pacific Railroad. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad for his entire career! He loved the outdoors for Hunting, Fishing, Duck and Bird Hunting, He loved to trap many different kinds of wild animals. He loved dogs, and training many Black Labs. Billy was very active in sports, loved to run. Billy loved to ride motorcycles, cross country, or trying to climb Widow Maker Mountain.

In 1957 Billy married Joan Bangerter, and they raised 4 children, Jeff, Wendy, April, & Kristi.

After 23 years he married Utahna (Toni) Moosman and they began to build a cabin on the property, that Dad had purchased many years earlier, as Dad retired from the railroad, they focused on the cabin which was a major undertaking for the 2 of them. But after a few years as the cabin neared completion, it became their masterpiece. And a place that has been enjoyed by many for many years now.

Billy seemed to be able to do anything that he put his mind to. He became a great man, trial & error was his Motto, He learned over time what it means to become a great Dad, Grandpa, & father. Billy’s legacy was his family, they became his everything, a blended family of many.

He was survived by Toni (his Wife) Sisters Shirley, Sue, and Cindy. Children Jeff, Wendy (Brian), April (Craig), Kristi (Brian). Toni’s family members. Vickie, Sandy, Jerry, Greg, Grand Children 32, Great Grand Children 48 ½.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Memorial Murray Mortuary 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah 84121. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123. Interment will follow.

Due to the landscape of COVID-19, all public gatherings are limited to 50 people at a time. To accommodate this, Memorial Mortuaries and Cemeteries are able to have 50 people at a time staggering in and out of the viewing room. Also, there will be a free live stream of the service so you can watch from your own home. Please view the streaming instructions below:
