Roxie Peters Douglas was born February 24, 1956 in Rupert, Idaho to Dorothy and Murray Peters, Roxie was their only child and was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from Skyline High School in 1974. She was a self-taught graphic artist working for FG Ferre and Son. She met her husband Kenton, on October 1, 1977. In 1981, they had their first child, Zackery Lee, and in 1984 their second, Nickolas Ray. They raised their family in Cottonwood Heights. Shwom was both a conventional and at the same time an unconventional mother but she was the best mom anyone could ask for, she encouraged her kids to find happiness and passion in the things they loved.

One of Roxie’s many passions was her ability to create; through painting, crafting, sewing, and cooking, she was incredibly talented. She was never afraid to try a new technique or mix-in an unexpected spice, just to see how it would turn out. She would always jump at the chance to try a new type of food at a new eatery to get ideas on a meal prepared at home.

She was an automobile enthusiast, with her first car being a ’65 Ford Mustang. In 1974 she acquired her pride and joy, a ’72 Dodge Challenger. She drove the Challenger daily for most of her life, often practicing “when in doubt, punch out” and generally willing to show off her slap shifting skills. She loved to “talk shop” and frequently participated in many car shows and events.

Some of her happiest moments were spent at Lake Powell with her family, she loved to feel the sensation of sand and water barefoot. She loved a good party and never wanted to leave early many times being the last one to call it a night. She would always greet you with a warm smile and a sincere embrace.

In May of 2017, she was diagnosed with Anaplastic Astrocytoma, a rare malignant brain tumor. She fought a brutal battle with cancer for 22 months with the strength and tenacity that she had always lived by. Despite her fierce spirit and unwillingness to surrender, she lost the struggle with the beast on February 21, 2019.

Roxie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Kenton, her children, Zack (Kali) and Nick (Emily), and her trusted feline side-kick, Cowboy. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

To the family,

I’m so sorry for your loss. A scripture that is comforting to me is Isaiah 33:24 where it says that soon, “no resident will say I am sick.” Soon sickness and death will not be a concern for us, we will be able to live in an “abundance of peace..” psalm 37:10,11.
