Maurice Gale Hartman

M. Gale Hartman, age 91, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, entered peacefully into rest, Friday, June 7, at home in Bountiful, Utah. Gale is survived by his wife of 62 years, H Patricia (Jones) Hartman. In addition to Gale's wife, Pat, he leaves a son, Don Hartman (Jeanine) of Pocatello, Idaho; a daughter Karen Calhoun (Jim) of Chandler, Arizona; a daughter-in-law, Bridget Fifield Blood; 15 grandchildren - Wayne, Bradley, Melissa, Dennis, Peter, Jakob, Kristina, Rachel, Seth, Caitlin, Alyssa, Chelsea, Talin, Annastajza, Csensi and 17 great grandchildren! Gale was preceded in death by a son, Rob Hartman; a sister, Zuletta Hildebrand; and a sister, Liz Trautman.

Gale Hartman's parents, the late Urbin N. and Anna Lola (Shirk), brought him into the world on October 3, 1927, delivered by his grandfather in the Shirk's home in Laverne, California.

Gale had a brief career in film when as a young, handsome boy, playing with his friends near a Hollywood Studio, a director discovered his beautiful hands and recruited him on the spot. After slaving under hot lights for at least 15 minutes in a game of checkers scene, the director dismissed him and used the scene in a movie without listing him in the credits. Gale’s film career ended almost before it began, but his silver screen legend endures!

Later in life, Gale’s hands played their cameo role when, through both their close friends, he met Patricia (Pat) Jones over the phone. Gale, awestruck by Pat's voice, relentlessly pursued her, he rewrote his script and married Pat on the 25th of January, 1957.

Gale owned nearly every tool known to man, which he used with his skilled hands to upgrade his last beautiful family home in Bountiful. Gale's talented hands also won him the California state championship in archery, helped him pilot small planes as a member of the CAP (Civil Air Patrol) and earned valuable skills in computer programming in the United States Navy during WWII.

Gale retired from North American Autonetics in Anaheim, California, (a division of North American Rockwell), in 1972, afterward moving to Bountiful, UT that same year, where he founded Hartman Photography. Gale's artistic eyes earned him the position of official photographer for the Carillon Reception Center. Gale also served as an outstanding and dedicated team member of NCS (National Computer Systems).

Out of all his greatest accomplishments, however, Gale's beautiful spirit will live on as a sweet, patient, and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather with a wonderful, warm sense of humor.

A viewing will be held from 6-8:00 pm Monday, June 10, 2019 at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at the Mueller Park 2nd Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1825 South 800 East, Bountiful, Utah, where an additional viewing will be held from 9:45-10:45 am just before the funeral.
