Born on February 12, 1935 in Murray, UT

Mary Lou Morrison passed away peacefully on May 29th at the age of 85. Her high-school sweetheart and husband of more than 65 years, George, died last July. The couple lived in Murray and Sandy for most of their lives.

Mary Lou was a proud stay-at-home mom until her sons were in school, then had a fulfilling career doing market research for her cousin Gay Hill’s business in Murray. When she was first married she worked as a telephone switchboard operator in Salt Lake City and later in life she enjoyed teaching water aerobics.

Mary Lou’s greatest joy was time spent with family and friends. She relished any time spent outdoors. Combining her favorite things, she loved camping, day trips in the Wasatch, and road trips to nearly every corner of the U.S.

She had an active childhood and told stories of riding horses around Murray and exploring Big Cottonwood Canyon while her family picnicked.

Her last home in Sandy faced the Wasatch mountains--she stood at the door every morning taking in “her” mountains and getting ready for the day.

Above all, Mary Lou believed in the best in everyone she met. Her hope and optimism were rarely daunted.

She is survived by three sons: Michael, Don (Melissa), and Kelly (Karen); five grandchildren (Lisa, Kyle, Erik, Jessica, Nicole), and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah.

Mary Lou was my shirt-tail relative and one of my dearest friends. I've never known a more positive person, one who always saw the best in everyone she met. The world is a sadder place without her, and I mourn with her sons and their families, whom she so dearly loved. Rest in peace, my dear friend.
