He was born in Los Angeles California in 1966 and soon after his family relocated to his mother's home state of Utah, where he resided with his mother and sister for many years.

He graduated from the University of Utah in 1992 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. His passion however, was his decades of education and training in pursuit of becoming a Sommelier, an expert in wines and spirits, earning him the title of Master of Wine (MW) within the WSET certification.

He traveled extensively building relationships and a client base with wineries, restauranteurs and other purveyors.

Kim was a force to be reckoned with. He lived his life authentically and without apologies. He walked through this world with grace, beauty, courage and an outward presentation of undeniable confidence but his internal dialogue spoke a different message. He faced many challenges and struggles to achieve personal and professional success, but some battles simply cannot be won.

He was preceded in death by his best friend and mother, Wendy Romney Hassibe. He is survived by his only sibling and sister, Amina Hassibe and her four children, his nieces and nephews. Braden Pratt Deters (Shauna Gowans), Cooper Deters (Ashlie Jones), Alexandria Deters (Jaxon Deters) and McKenzi Deters (Eric J. Larson). He is also survived by his great nephews and niece. Lucan Lewis Larson, Haven Dean Jones and Beretta Steele Deters.

Dear brother, you did not know how bright your light shined.

Dear Hassibe Family. I was a friend of Kim's 20+ years ago. We met at a winery guest cottage in the mid 90s. It has been a long time since we hung out together at the Aspen Food and Wine Classic, but I have very fond memories of him and his cool vibe and easy way of moving through life. I was looking on the internet today to see where he was hanging his shingle when I came across this heartbreaking news. Please accept my most sincere condolences. Skylar

Thinking about you today and always. I love you, Kim, and I’ll always remember the great times we had at work and outside of the workplace. Thank you for being you and being nothing short of an awesome friend and brother.

I only heard this tragic news just today, and it breaks my heart! Such a bright and promising man despite his internal conflicts. I started him on his career in wine as he was my assistant wine buyer for a number of years here in Utah before taking off on his own. We did not part on good terms, but Kim always knew I wished him the best in life. We lost touch years ago...yet it saddens me greatly that there might have been some small thing I or anyone could have done to prevent this.

I had the pleasure of working with Kim while he was our wine broker in Utah. My memories of Kim were nothing but positive around business, and the good times we had while working together. As I reflect back upon my 40 years in the wine industry, I can honestly say the time I spent knowing and working with Kim were among my favorites.

I’m so sorry for you’re loss. Kim was a good friend at the U and Phi Delt house. We may not have seen eye to eye on many things, but that strengthened our friendship.

You will be missed, my friend. As a student at Utah and frat brother to my son we got to know and enjoy your smile and grace. May you rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Kim’s loss. He was such a great guy. I really looked up to him as a wide eyed Freshmen Phi Delt. Kim was the epitome of cool. In heaven there is rest.
