Darwin was a decorated war veteran that served in Vietnam. During his service in the United States Army, he received several awards and medals for his accomplishments. Among these are: The Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star Medal with Valor. These are given to the U.S. Soldiers who have been wounded during service and shown immense courage and heroism during combat.

He was strong, funny, sarcastic, and quick-whitted. The rules never seemed to apply to him. He would give anyone a hard time, but with humor and love. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and playing pool or shooting darts at Willie’s Tavern. He was fond of any sport where drinking beer was a staple. He loved spending time with his friends and family, and especially adored his four grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife Pat Carlson, children: Candace Carlson, Darlene Castano, Bryan Carlson, his granddaughters: Dominique (Lexy), Ayla, Alexis, Alyssa. His siblings: Glen (Kathy) Carlson, Kenny (Debbie) Carlson, Roger (Terry) Carlson, and Cindy (Ron) Davis.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Ray and Ruth Carlson, and his sisters: Diane Andrews and Shelia Erikson.
