It is with great sadness that the family of Arnie Melby announces his passing on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the age of 67 years. For those of you who knew Arnie, it would come at no great shock that he was hardly a fan of long obituaries, and funeral services. He enjoyed life, and wanted to be remembered for living it to its fullest.

Arnie is survived by his beautiful wife of nearly 50 years, Barbara Ann Melby. He is also survived by a prospering family including his son Nicolas and his wife Meagan, who run a thriving business in St George Utah. Again he is survived by his other son Chris and his wife LeAnn and their 2 children. And finally, he is survived by a person who held a very special place in his heart, Taylor Melby. Both Barbara and Arnie were absolutely instrumental in raising and teaching Taylor, and in return she was, and is, instrumental in providing a shining light in their lives as well.

Arnie spent the Lion's Share of his adult life working construction along the Wasatch Front. He started out with home construction, moved to commercial construction and remodeling, and finished with manufacturing. Being successful at business was something that just came naturally to him.

Arnie had a single favorite place: Lake Powell. He was a local on the lake from a young age, and enjoyed countless journeys exploring the vast shorelines of the Escalante. He has requested that his family return him to his old stomping grounds in the spring of 2019.

Arnie requested that no funeral was necessary. Again, for anyone that knew him, this should come as no surprise. He wanted to be remembered for the good times, and he will. Go easy "Old Man".

So sorry for your loss. Ironically, the last time I saw him was 4 years ago at lake Powell. He was a good and fair man.

I didn't know he was sick. I only found out when he passed. I am just sad. Arnie was a great man. Very fair. Always honest. He had my back if things messed up. He demanded those same qualities from me. It's not hard to comply with virtue when virtue leads the way. His example plowed the road for us. May his family follow in his footsteps.

I still think of Arnie everyday. I will miss hearing the Lake Powell boating stories, the daily reports of his hikes and all the other vacation stories he would tell me about. We did a lot of business together and he was one of the most honest, straight forward guys I have ever know. He will be missed.

Barbara and Family, I was certainly shocked to hear about Arnie's passing away, so sad and he will be missed by many. Arnie was always a hard worker, a good provider for his family, respected by his employee's, and thoroughly enjoyed by his friends. Life has taken many of us, that enjoyed our high school memories together, in very separate and different directions, but I always held my friendship with Arnie in a special place even though we have lived geographically apart for years.

God Bless Sincerely Jeff

I am so sad to hear of his passing, I remember so clearly as senior at Bountiful High, he was voted the Best Looking Senior, I was listening to a group of girls and they were Listing his attributes the one I remember was the most, was have you seen how small a waist he has. It had never really never hit me that all you wonderful girls were noticing the boys too.

Having Arnie as our next door neighbor was a treat. First, he kept such an immaculate yard that it inspired many others in the neighborhood to do likewise...Second, he was friendly to all and easy to talk with. Third, he adored his family. He mentioned how he wanted to spend more time with Barb in these retired years. Arnie was and still is a “good soul”. We will miss watching him work in the yard or taking care of his two favorite ladies, Taylor & Barb...we will miss you Arnie.
