Frequently Asked Questions

Updated July 16, 2020

  • Is there a cost to post a Life Story or Obituary to theMemories?

No, it is free to post a Life Story. For the time being, theMemories will waive all costs of posting a Life Story to our site. As funeral and memorial services are affected by the current crisis, we want to help bring families together even though they may be physically apart. There are no additional package costs or renewal costs to keep a Life Story on the site.

  • What are the steps to create a Life Story on theMemories?

    1. To begin, click the MENU icon on the top-right of the page. From here, you can either sign in to your account or create a new one.

    2. Once you have completed the sign in or sign up process, you can click on the CREATE LIFE STORY link in the header to start your Life Story.

    3. Fill out the form and take as much time as you need to include the information you'd like. Note that a full name, birth/death year and your obituary content are the only required fields to post.

    4. From here, you can save your Life Story as draft, share a preview link with family or submit to publish.

    5. Once published, your Life Story will appear on the site immediately. You can then easily share your Life Story to social media and email.

  • How do I edit my Life Story?

To edit your Life Story, open the menu in the righthand corner and SIGN IN. Once you are signed in, click the LIFE STORIES link. Here, you will see all the Life Stories you have posted in your account. Click the EDIT link to update or add to your posting. Once you have completed your edits, click PUBLISH CHANGES near the bottom of the page to save your changes.

  • Is there a limit to how many photos I can upload to my Gallery or Timeline?

No, there are no limits to how many photos or how much content you can add to a Life Story. Photos are limited to 10MB each, but you can upload as many as you’d like to your Gallery or Timeline.

  • What are the requirements or limits when posting a Life Story?

There are no deadlines or time constraints when writing a Life Story. You can take as much or as little time as you’d like. It’s even possible to begin the Life Story process prior to someone’s passing and wait to publish and pay when you are ready.

  • Can you help me post my obituary to a local newspaper?

theMemories does not have an affiliation with any print newspaper at this time. Obituaries posted to the site will only appear online on theMemories and the KSL.com obituary section.

  • Can I post a Life Story memorial for someone who passed months or years ago?

Absolutely. You can post a Life Story at any time for any individual that has passed. We want to offer all families a place to memorialize their loved one, especially if it was not available to them at the time of passing.

  • How long will a Life Story be viewable and searchable on the site?

Once a Life Story is posted, we will never take it down. You can edit and add to the Life Story forever. Visitors can also always access the Guestbook and Timeline. If at any time you'd like to remove your Life Story from the site, you will have the option to delete it from your account.

  • How do I manage the Guestbook and Timeline on a Life Story?

Your friends and family can enter Guestbook comments without having to create an account. Comments are visible immediately. If there is any issue with what is posted, you can flag a comment and our moderators will review it as quickly as possible. Visitors can also submit Timeline memories as either a photo memory or text memory. Timeline submissions will be sent to your account to approve or reject before they are visible on the site.

  • I can’t find the obituary or person that I’m looking for. Where is it?

theMemories does not have historical obituaries, nor does it include obituaries not directly posted to the site. You will only find an individual’s Life Story if the family or funeral home has posted it here. If you would like to post a Life Story for the person you are looking for, you are welcome to do so as long as you are or have permission from the family.

  • I received an email that the funeral home made me an owner of a Life Story. What does this mean and how do I claim it?

A funeral home is asked to include a family representative each time they post to theMemories. This gives the family the opportunity to claim and gain admin access to the Life Story. To claim a Life Story, click the link in the email and create an account (if you have not already). You will now have access to the Life Story and you can edit and add to it freely. The funeral home will retain access for six months after you claim the Life Story to add important service events and details.

  • I represent a funeral home and I am interested in partnering with theMemories. Where can I find more information?
